Pet peeve, dangerous thing, frustrates me, could hurt anyone.
I am not referring to the people out there this week in the snow and ice that were driving slowly and carefully, but still spun their tires or slid to the side.
I am not referring to the people who normally drive carefully and just had a momentary lapse and their speed picked up, but caught it and slowed down.
I am merely referring to those of you who are so impatient that you raced past the slower cars, confident or just plain not caring.
It is easy to forget that just because your car/truck/SUV will travel on the icy roads with a bit more grip than others, that it won’t stop any quicker, with any more ease. This is your reminder.
It is easy to assume that statistic does not apply to you. You obviously have been lucky and not hit that patch of water or ice. It does apply to you, too.
It is easy to forget that children, dogs, deer, raccoons, coyotes, cats, and adults, yes, adults, also forget or don’t realize that you are going to fly down their road, their play area, their home. This is your reminder.
Unless you are the hardest of hard hearts (or heartless, plain and simple) it WILL affect you if it happens. It WILL hurt, not just physically, but in your heart.
I don’t wish that on ANYONE, so this is OUR reminder. I hope it doesn’t come too late.

I think what’s worse is all of the people driving through red lights. you save, what, a couple of minutes — maybe, and you risk killing someone. I just don’t get that.
I have to agree with you, uisce, guess the ice was just on my mind, since it is winter.
It scares me when people (drivers) think that they are invincilbe and “too skillful” to ever get into an accident. Thankfully, we don’t have ice or snow here yet, but when we do, the idiots will be out there in full force.
Thanks for dropping by.
Yes, that handweight was just gathering dust before I propped the door open with it.
