Balance

It is all about balance:

incoming vs. outgoing in our bank accounts
risk vs. conservatism in our investments
eating good food vs. bad food
giving vs. taking
relaxation vs. work
sitting vs. standing
awake vs. asleep
wearing too much vs. too little
exercise vs. sedentary
this hobby vs. that hobby
children vs. housework
being overly saturated by news vs. being unaware of the world around us
speaking vs. listening
couple time vs. me time

And how it is presented:

“Versus” makes it look like a fight
“Or” makes it sound like an all or nothing proposition
“Balance” sounds like simply adding or subtracting

But the reality is that Balance is adding or subtracting, sometimes with a fight, sometimes giving all, other times giving up all.

Relationship are like old-fashioned scales, overall the scales remain standing in balance. On any given day, one person may be riding higher than the other, only to ride the seesaw of scales down. . . and back up.

It is only truly unbalanced when each side of the scales remains frozen in time. Someone needs to loosen the nut that holds it — or break it free.
